Queen Latifah

Dana Elaine Owens better known as Queen Latifah is an American musician, actress, and rapper. Her performance as a singer, music as well as a film and television artist has earned the actress the distinction of two Screen Actors Guild Awards and two Image Awards. She also was awarded an Grammy Award along with six additional Grammy nominations. Queen Latifah is the daughter of Newark New Jersey native. Her parents are Lancelot Sr. as a police officer and Rita, a instructor in Irvington High School. Latifah's parents separated when she was just 10 years old. Latifah was raised in the Baptist church and she attended Catholic schools in Newark New Jersey. Her stage name Latifah meaning delicate and very gentle in Arabic was handed to her by her cousin at the age of she was just eight years old. Mark James aka DJ Mark the 45 King, recorded a demo recording of Queen Latifah's rap Princess of the Posse. He emailed the recorded to Yo! MTV Raps The Fab 5 Freddy. Dante Ross of Tommy Boy Music has signed Latifah after hearing the song. The singer released her debut single Wrath of My Madness, in the year 1988.
